Yuki Judo Celebrates the International Women’s Day!

During March, Yuki Judo is celebrating the International Women’s Day.

Our doors are always open for everybody to try our classes for free, but this month in particular we want all women to come and try our classes!!!

So, you can find below 10 Reasons why women should try Judo at Yuki (don’t miss the last one 😉)

Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays 6pm at Boeing Reserve. Contact Us if you have any question!

  1. Judo is very fun and engaging. We do a lot of different activities in the class (breakfalls, standing and on the ground techniques, self-defence, and much more!). So, you never get bored doing the same things.
  2. We are a proud ‘This Girl Can’ supporter. We want to encourage girls and women to join our classes. We already have 2 and possibly 3 regular female students in our adult class and we do all we can to make women feel welcomed.
  3. We make sure the classes are super relaxed, safe and fun. No intimidating environment, just local people having fun while exercising and learning new things. On top of that, we are close to your home at Boeing Reserve!
  4. Classes are structured in a way that every person trains and makes progress at their own pace, so they are suitable for all ages and fitness levels, even if you have zero experience with martial arts.
  5. Judo is a non-violent Olympic Sport and Martial art (there are no punches and kicks) and training can be as intense or as light as you choose to.
  6. The founder of Judo created it in a way that any person can effectively apply the techniques to someone much stronger and bigger so you don’t need to be strong and athletic to do it. This makes it great for self-defence and every class we dedicate some time to practice specific and easy to apply self-defence techniques.
  7. You can come out of curiosity, just for the Free trial class. We want more people to know what Judo is about, so we are cool with that.
  8. If you don’t feel comfortable coming alone, you can ask a friend, relative or neighbour and come together to have fun and try out. Otherwise, don’t worry, there is always one or two female students in every class anyways.
  9. You have an extra free trial class during March and we’ll lend you a Judo jacket so you can feel like a true Judoka from the start.
  10. Last, but not least, to celebrate the International Women’s Day, you have an extra free trial class (I’ve already mentioned that) and if you decide to continue training, you get a free Judo Gi and a 30% discount for the first three months! (these all is worth more than $150!)

So, the only thing remining is you grabbing a water bottle and coming any Monday and Wednesday at 6pm at Boeing Reserve! (Just search Yuki Judo in Google or Apple Maps)

Please Contact us if you have any questions.

Looking forward to seeing you soon 😊

Yuki Judo Participated in a 3-day Summer Judo Seminar

Photo of Zenyo Judo tatami

This past weekend, our Sensei has participated in an 3-day Summer Judo Seminar, held at Zenyo Judo in Abbotsford, from Friday to Sunday.

It was a great and intense seminar and the perfect opportunity to improve our Judo, especially after the last 2 year’s lockdowns and interruptions.

We trained tachi waza (standing techniques) and randori (practice fights) in the mornings, and ne waza (techniques on the ground) and kata (formal pre-established set of techniques) in the afternoons.

Thank you, Zenyo Judo, for organising it!

It was a great start of the year and an awesome preparation for Yuki Judo’s kick start on Monday 31st January.

See you on the mat!

Happy New Year!

Yuki Judo wishes you a great 2022, full of success and Judo!

Our classes for Adults and Kids (8-14 YO) start on Monday 31 JAN

Little kids class on Saturdays will start on 19 FEB

See you on the mat!

Goodbye 2021!

On Saturday 18 December we had the last class of the year. All in all, and in spite of COVID, we’ve had a great year with a lot of highlights:

  • we finished 2021 with more than 25 students in the Yuki Judo family, ranging from 3 years old to +40 YO adults.
  • we hosted our first ‘This Girl Can’ event in March and our Coach was interviewed by ABC radio on that day!
  • we participated in one tournament (the only one in 2021) with great results for three of our brave Judokas
  • Yuki Judo got its first grading exams, with 6 of our students getting their yellow belts
  • we hosted 3 free open Judo online classes during lockdown that were joined by kids, adults and entire families with and without Judo experience
  • and also, our adult class is starting to pick up.

For all that, a big thank you for your support during this difficult year.

Have a great festive season and all the best wishes for 2022!

See you on the mat after the break!

Did you know that Yuki Judo classes are open for Blind & Vision impaired people?

We work closely with Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria to promote it and we have a regular student in the adults class who is completely blind.

She started training at the beginning of 2021 on Wednesdays only and after a month, she joined the rest of the students and has been training twice per week since then! (well, until COVID lockdown anyways)

Here’s some fun facts about Blind Judo:

– Judo is the world’s most popular martial art for athletes with visual impairments.

– To compete in Paralympic Judo, you need to have less than 10% of remaining vision or your visual field restricted to less than 20%.

– Judo is one of the few competitive sports that the visually impaired athlete can participate in fully without major accommodations.

– Practically, the only difference when fighting is that the competitors start the bout already holding each other instead of 2m apart, the rest is pretty much the same

– There are many vision impaired Judokas worldwide that have reached the podium in regular competitions against sighted Judokas- Antônio Tenório Silva is a Brazilian Judoka who holds several records. He’s completely blind and has won 7 medals in Paralympic games, including 4 gold medals in consecutives games. He got COVID in early 2021 and was in ICU for 18 days, but he still participated in the Tokyo games with 50 years old and won the Bronze medal in his category!

After the Olympic Games, Join us for “The Judo Experience”

Hi, hope you are enjoying the Olympic Games!

As Judo is an Olympic Sport, at Yuki Judo we’d like to give everybody the opportunity to learn what Judo is about.

This is why during the 4 weeks following the Olympic Games, we are offering packs of 4 free classes* for our adult class so you can all get to have “The Judo Experience” (including wearing a borrowed Judo jacket for the trial!*). This is a beginners’ friendly class open for all ages, genders and fitness levels.

It is a rare opportunity to do something different and exciting while having a lot of fun!

Still not sure? Tell your partner, friends or neighbours and come together to have some fun!

Classes are Mon & Wed 6pm at Boeing Reserve

Contact us to secure your spot or if you have any questions and see you on the mat!

*Event finishes on 1/9/21. There is a limited number of Judo suits to lend, so they will be assigned by order of registration. Every person gets 4 free classes to be used before the end of the event. If the number of people exceeds the venue limit, they will be able to attend after the first group finishes.

Yuki Judo Started Term 3 with 5 New Yellow Belts

Yesterday at Yuki Judo, we started Term 3 with our first 5 students receiving their 5th Kyu (yellow belts).

They have taken their grading exam during the school holidays where they had to demonstrate different skills and techniques required to receive their new rank.

Congratulations to our 5 Judokas in achieving this first milestone in their Judo learning path!

Yuki Judo 2-year Aniversary

Last week it’s been 2 years since Yuki Judo Dojo opened its doors on 6 May 2019.

It’s been a long way since those early days. And today, I’m very proud and happy to see that Yuki Judo family has currently 29 Judokas training regularly across our three classes, with ages going from 3 years old to 45!

Over the years we have created partnerships with Blind Sports Victoria and This Girl Can as a way of consolidating our vision of having an inclusive Dojo where anyone can come and learn Judo no matter their gender, age, believes, fitness level or abilities.

There’s still a long way to go to keep promoting this amazing Martial Art and Olympic Sport, but I just wanted to take the time to thank all our Judokas and their families for their support and trust over these two years.

See you on the mat!

VAJU Autumn Tournament – Congrats to all Yuki Judo Participants

Congratulations to the Judokas from Yuki Judo who attended the VAJU Autumn Tournament yesterday.

Photo of the three Yuki Judo participants with our coach Clau

It was a great event with around 25 participants across all categories!

Results and comments from yesterday:

Under 13

Congratulations to Eilidh for participating on her first tournament showing great attitude with some loses and wins, but taking valuable experience for the future.

Abi did a great job joining the comp at the last minute without having fully recovered from her finger luxation last week. Being one of the lighter participants in her category, she fought amazingly and demonstrated great Judo skills.

Both competitors had five exhausting fights with many experienced Judokas and demonstrated they have what it takes to be great Judokas!

Under 15

Great tournament for Bonnie, participating in a very though category with many experienced Judokas. After four intense fights, she received the bronze medal in her category!

All in all, a highly successful tournament. We had fun, we learn a lot and we are ready to keep training for the next one in June!
